Genius Ways to Use Fonts without Installing Them (2 Apps)

Posted on April 30, 2019

Organizing and managing fonts is a painful task without any apps to manage them. There are a lot of font managers available for free or paid, you can see the list here. But be careful as some of them are not updated or have been discontinued by their respective developers.

I've been using NexusFont for quite a long time. It helps me manage and choose what fonts I need for a certain task. Since I am a graphic designer I use different fonts a lot. I tried both FontBase and NexusFont, but I am used to NexusFont as it is easy and straightforward.

Until my font collection became bigger and NexusFont wasn't be able to handle large font collections. NexusFont became too slow to open and viewing fonts on the panel is difficult as the app hangs. Then I decided to try FontBase. Though different from NexusFont's interface, FontBase is easy to use as well. FontBase can handle my huge font collections and does not have any problem when viewing fonts. As of this writing, I don't find any issues when using the app.

Note of the *, some Windows 10 update slows down the app when loading fonts. Just disable the Windows Font Cache Service. Also note that there is no option for the application to run when the computer starts, you have to copy the application shortcut and place it manually to the Startup folder.
